Thoughts and Observations

What would a group of platypus be called? Platypii? Platypuses? Hmmm.....

So, my friend thinks we are curious what fuming hydronium ion would do to a benzene ring. Ha, unfortunately, none of really cared.

I learned yesterday what compounds would protonate in the heartbeat of a gnat. The heartbeat of a gnat going 70 miles an hour in fact.

So, I see a girl wearing fatigues. Cool. That's nice. All of a sudden, she pulls lip gloss out of one of the many pockets. That is so wrong.... :)

Hello Monday!
I think I'm ready for it. It's going to be a great week! I've got a chemistry test looming in the air of this week, so most of my study time this week will be consumed by that.

So, I made scones last night. Put them in the oven. Then I went and did homework. A while later, I was on the computer. I suddenly realized my scones were still in the oven. I never got them out. Hopefully someone upstairs did. They had to be in there 10 to 20 minutes too long. Well, I ran upstairs. No one had gotten them out. I open the oven....they were a little dark, but really not that bad. I know, wasn't that suspenseful?! Ha ha!

I am for sure going to Mississippi for spring break. All the destruction from Katrina still needs cleaning up. I'll leave Saturday afternoon of spring break and get back the next Sunday afternoon. Woo hoo!

Of the Day

The admission of the day: I am officially a Facebooker. Ah! I have joined the mind washed masses of college students. Oh well. Life must go on I suppose.

Observation of the Day: It doesn't help a person's stress level to go on and on about how to not be nervous while giving a speech.

Quote of the Day: You're the fun in my Funyons. Thank you, Patricia! You are now officially a published...quoter.

Vent of the Day: Sick! Ew! Ruins my flow. I went to sleep at 9 last night. So much for studyding for Organic.

Wish of the Day: University of Alaska calls and SAYS I GOT THE INTERNSHIP. AH!!!!

Craving of the Day: Oooh, fettucine alfredo sounds great. Rather, I will likely be having tater tot casserole which I made and froze. Also very good in my opinion.

Last Semester!!!!

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!!! The schedule for fall semester is out, so I already know what classes I will be taking in my last semester as an undergrad. Woo hoo! For once in my life, I will have a whole day that I don't have to go to school. Mondays and Wednesdays will be 10-4:30 straight, Fridays 10-2 straight, Thursdays a two hour lab, and no class Tuesday. This means I will be moving back in with my parents next semester. In an attempt to save up for grad school and/or vet school, I am going to opt for free rent. Since I won't be at school every day, might as well stay in Canon. I'm super excited! :) Not too excited about taking 18 credits of upper division biochemistry, physics II, microbiology, environmental toxicology at the same time, but I'm fine with it since I'm so close to finishing.

Happy Second Day of the Week

Happy Tuesday! I had one class today. I usually get a lot of work done on this particular day of the week. This morning before class, I studied for my molecular genetics test and did some chemistry homework.
Then class which was honestly quite boring. We had a quiz which no one did very well on. For some odd reason, I am not quite caring about that right now.
Then I worked on a paper for 3.5 hours. It would have been two, but I lost it on the first round. It went to someplace in the black hole of Microsoft Word land. Odd... At least it went quicker the second time around.
Anyone seen "Across the Universe"? Good movie! I have been interested in the 60s-age of hippies of sorts-for some time, so I found it interesting in that sense. It was also a very visually appealing movie-colorful and so forth. Admittedly, sometimes due to their acid trips, but interesteing nonetheless.
Have a good one! I am off to chemistry study session. Woo hoo!

"If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless. Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world." James 1:26,27

I've had the idea in my head for a while that I want to adopt. I really had the idea in my head after I went to Africa.

International Orphans
· Sub-Sahara Africa has the highest proportion of orphans – 43.4 million
· The proportion of orphaned children generally increases with age
§ 12 percent are 0-5 years old, equating to 17.5 million orphans
§ 33 percent are 6-11 years old, equating to 47 million orphans
§ 55 percent 12-17 years old, equating to 79 million orphans
· In Central and Eastern Europe, almost 1.5 million children live in public · By 2010, the number of children orphaned by AIDS is expected to exceed 25 million
· 20 percent of households with children in southern Africa are caring for one or more orphans

So, I just read an "article" today on the subject. A girl wrote in concerning adoption. She said she wanted to adopt and did not really have a desire to have children of her own. She says she believes it is selfish to have children of our own when there are so many in the world without parents. She wrote in to a column asking advice because of all the negative feedback she had been getting on her philosophy.

The columnist replies: "There's no question that your desire to adopt is in line with God's will for believers. So where does that leave your plan to adopt instead of having your own children? The best place to look for answers to your question about preventing birth is Scripture. Nothing in the Bible suggests that some married couples are set apart to not have children. Never does the charge to care for orphans and widows come at the expense of natural children. The ministry of adoption is in addition to biological offspring. Throughout Scripture, natural children are always presented as a blessing to be embraced. As such, biblical marriage presupposes an openness to the blessing of children".

While I agree with the response, I wonder. If having my own children would financially constrain me from adopting, I think it would be "right" for me personally to make a decision to adopt. It seems almost wrong for myself to (in the future) have my own kids when there are so many that need love. Why wouldn't I adopt?

Granted, these are all thoughts running around in my head, and I have not done any extensive thinking or researching on the topic. I am, however, curious about any opinions other people might have.

Uh huh

Well, three weeks down and starting the fourth. If I was running a marathon, I would be 5.6 miles of the way there. :)

So, the Giants won. I do not follow football, but I always pick the underdogs to "root" for when the Superbowl rolls around. Sweet!

Worked this weekend, did homework, hung with my peep Carly. We basically boycotted the Superbowl. We ate junk food and watched a movie. Sweet! :)

For news, I am talking to some missionaries in Ukraine and in Cambodia. I want to do a bit of longer term missions work after I graduate. Two or three months. We'll see where God takes that...
